SDG Access recently completed the installation of a new automatic sliding doorset for an accessible toilet at an arts centre in Lincoln.

The project involved replacing the existing doors and frame with a new commercial aluminium sliding door system, designed to provide convenient, automatic access to the accessible toilet.

The Project

The arts centre required an upgrade to the entrance of its Level 1 accessible toilet.

The existing doors and frame needed replacing with a new system that would provide automatic operation and incorporate suitable access controls for users of the facility.

The challenge was to install a complete sliding doorset within the existing opening, providing a practical and reliable solution that would support easier access while integrating with the building.

The Solution: Automatic Sliding Doors

Our engineers removed and disposed of the existing doors and frame before supplying and installing a new commercial aluminium sliding doorset.

The new framework was manufactured using a standard non-thermally insulated aluminium door suite, with all aluminium components powder coated in a standard RAL colour.

The door leaves and side screen pocket were fitted with insulated panels, providing a clean and consistent finish to the installation.

Record STM20 Automatic Door Operator

The new sliding doors are operated by a Record STM20 automatic door operator, providing powered opening and closing without the need for manual operation.

This provides a convenient solution for an accessible toilet, where straightforward entry and exit are particularly important.

Accessible Push Pad Activation and Safety Features

The installation incorporates a WC push pad activation and locking system, allowing users to operate the door and secure the facility while in use.

An emergency break glass release was also included as part of the system, providing an additional means of access in an emergency.

Testing and Commissioning

Following installation, SDG tested and commissioned the automatic sliding doors to BS EN 16005:2012 standards.

All installation works were completed with safety and quality in mind, with the team leaving the site clean and tidy.

Improving Accessibility at the Arts Centre

The completed installation provides the arts centre with a new automatic sliding door system for its Level 1 accessible toilet.

Combining a commercial aluminium doorset with a Record STM20 operator, push pad activation and an integrated locking system, the installation provides a practical solution designed around the needs of the building and its users.

The project demonstrates SDG Access's experience in supplying and installing automatic sliding doors for commercial and public buildings, helping improve accessibility through reliable, purpose-designed door systems.
